What is Equine Dentistry?
Equine Dentistry is considered the act of floating (defined as averaging) Equidae’s dentition (equilibration) by influencing certain and specific angles (proper balance) through the act of removing any distortions impeding the free and proper movement of the jaw in every direction. Dentistry is provided by an Equine dental specialist working within the scope of his/her education, training, and experience as a part of animal husbandry, and in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the profession. Equine dentistry is therefore charged with laboring annually to maintain these distortions to allow functional and efficient mastication. In its simplest context for understanding, a horse’s dentition is a combination of geometric but dynamic structures that require regular maintenance to efficiently function.
